Dana is the practice of Generosity,

in recognition of life’s abundance, we give and receive.

Buddha: All gifts given or received, no matter how small,

even a blade of grass or a kind smile brings the dharma alive.

Dana is an ancient Sanskrit word that refers to the practice of wholehearted giving as a natural and compassionate response to our interconnectedness with one another. Dana can also be an expression of gratitude.

Donations and contributions of money, time and resources is greatly appreciated. Donations are used to pay for our zendo locations, pay our operating expenses, support our teachers, and provide scholarships for retreats.

If you sit with the zendo, we ask you to consider dana of $25 per month, if you are able. Smaller or larger contributions made with a generous heart are equally dana, and equally welcome. Donations given to Silver Spring Zendo/One Heart Sangha are tax-deductible. A year-end receipt of your donations is available upon request.

There are several opportunities to give dana to our Teachers and to the Sangha. There are donation baskets at our weekly meetings, monthly zazenkai, and sesshin. How much to give on any occasion is up to you. Consider the importance of Zen in your life, your means, and then let your natural generosity — your Zen-Mind — recognize that giving and receiving is the Way of the Buddha, and that it all comes back around.
